At the start of your journey together

The most important part of the cake design process is the initial consultation. For the couple and the cake designer.

Not only will you taste the different flavour combinations on offer, with a complimentary hot drink. But you'll also be part of the design process for your cake.

So how does it work?

Once you’ve let us know that you’d like to book a consultation, we will be in touch to invite you to book a slot on one of our next Consultation Days. These take place at our Commercial Bakery in Bassingbourn, Cambs. They last approx 1 hour.

You will receive 4 of our most popular flavours to try. With a complimentary hot drink. 

Kelly will book your consultation and will provide you with a Pre Wedding Consultation Form. We ask that this is returned a few days prior to your consultation. This form will ask questions about you as a couple, your wedding and your vision for your cake. 

Providing us with as much information as possible will help us gather some ideas for your cake prior to the consultation. You’re welcome to provide colour references, photos of other cakes (as inspiration only, we do not copy other cake designs), or details of flowers you’ve booked etc. Don’t worry if you don’t have these details though, we can inspire you with some new designs!

During your consultation we will discuss these details and Kelly will sketch out some designs for your cake. This is a fully interactive process, we welcome your feedback and ideas, often designs come together with us working together, you can be as involved as you wish to be with your wedding cake design. 

Kelly often recommends that fresh flowers are used on your cake to tie in with the flowers used in your venue. Any flowers that are recommended will need to be ordered by yourselves from your florist, they are not included within our quotation. 

Please note that not all flowers are food safe, Kelly will wrap the stems when inserting them into the cake but flowers such as Gypsophila and Eucalyptus are not recommended for use on cakes. Kelly can often recommend silk versions if there is a particular flower that you wish to include on your cake.  

Once we have agreed on your requirements, we will provide you with a written quotation and terms and conditions after the consultation. If you are happy to go ahead we ask for a £75 deposit to confirm your date following which we will provide a photo of the sketch of your chosen design. What happens next?

Once the deposit has been received your cake will be booked in the diary. We will then get in touch 6 weeks prior to reconfirm all of the details and request final payment.

We also ask at this point that you contact your florist (if flowers are being used on the cake) to ask for a list of flowers that are being used. We contact the venue to confirm details about the day itself including access times, allergen information and insurance details. 

We will also be in touch a few days before to wish you the best and to reassure you that your cake will be imminently baked freshly for your big day!

If you have sourced your own cake topper or cake stand, we ask that it is left for us at the venue so we can use these when we arrive to set up. We do have a selection of cake stands available to hire, these are offered for a £25 fee and a refundable deposit. (Please note; cake stands cannot be picked up after the wedding, they will need to be returned to Kelly’s Kitchen Bakery on the date and time agreed and in the original packaging in order for the deposit to be returned).

Feedback is really important to us. We will also send out a feedback form after your wedding, if you're able to complete it for us we will provide two complimentary cupcakes for your first anniversary (that can be collected from our shop on the weekend closest to your anniversary)
